Adventures in Diaperland

Those first days in China with Mei-Li--or Chunxi* as we also called her--were a blur of sight-seeing, paperwork, shopping, paperwork, doctor visits, paperwork... and that little matter of taking care of a one-year-old.  Thank goodness mum and David were there to help!

Mum actually was drafted to the baby's room with me and Mei-Li.  David had some peace at night, which was good because he was in charge of getting me from meeting to meeting to sign all of the paperwork.

Mama concentrates; Mei-Li dreams.

One thing I didn't know at first was that the babies were potty trained.  That was bad news for Mei-Li because she was waiting to be put on the toilet.  Mum and I were concerned when she didn't poop for a couple of days.  Finally, when Mei-Li and I were by ourselves, my trained baby couldn't wait any longer.  She pooped, so I laid her down on a towel on the bed to change her.  Before I could clean her up, she pooped again.   Aah!  And before I could diaper her, she pooped again.  Aaaaaaaah!  I ended up grabbing her little legs and bicycling them to try to get it all out.  Finally, the operation was completed, and Mei-Li and Mama both lay on the bed, relieved and exhausted.

Thank goodness there was no paparazzi.

*roughly pronounced Choonsy; short for her original--now middle--name, ChunXiang
